Spanish Culture

Spain bridges the African and European continents, the Iberian Peninsula has been a crossing point for three great traditions – Jewish, and Muslim and Christian Granada, dominated by the Sierra Nevadas and the imposing Moorish palace of the Alhambra, and shows the way in which these cultures have connected and clashed. The development of the city over the centuries includes a heritage, which is both strong artistically and culturally. Music, dance, architecture, crafts, and other things help us to comprehend the development and wealth of current day Spain. The contrasts that emerge as tradition finds modern-day life.

The Spanish way of life has changed quite a lot over the last couple of years and many of the tied-up religious ways of seeing things are giving way to more modern ways of looking at life. Even so, lots of old customs and traditions have not disappeared completely. Shaking hands is the normal way of greeting and kissing each other on both cheeks is normal. If you are invited to a private home, it is appreciated to take along a small gift. Flowers are usually sent / taken along for special occasions. Smoking is widely accepted, even in banks and shops but not on public transport.

Spanish way of life can be considered to be going at a slower pace than the rest of Europe, especially in the south. This might seem as lazy, but when Spanish people work, they are hard workers. It is quite normal for life to begin when the sun goes down.
